DC Prep's Edgewood Middle Campus Recognized for Outstanding Gains in Student Achievement

DC Prep's Edgewood Middle Campus has been recognized for its outstanding student achievement with an EPIC award from New Leaders for New Schools. EPIC awards, which compare charter school achievement gains across 20 states as well as DC, are given in recognition of excellent student performance on the annual state achievement test. DC Prep's Edgewood Middle Campus was one of only 22 schools selected from a field of 180 top-performing charter schools to win the award. The school's principal, Katie Severn, as well as her remarkable faculty, will receive individual financial rewards in honor of their students' dramatic results. They will also work with New Leaders for New Schools to document and share the effective practices that led to the award-winning gains.

The Effective Practice Incentive Community (EPIC) program is designed to identify and share best practices across a consortium of high-performing charter schools nationally, providing a unique opportunity for top-quality educators to learn from their peers. Conceived in 2006 by New Leaders for New Schools, EPIC is funded primarily by the U.S. Department of Education's Teacher incentive Fund Program and has awarded over $5 million to outstanding charter school educators.
