On October 13th, U.S Secretary of Education Arne Duncan and his wife, Karen, visited DC Prep's Edgewood campuses. The visit took place during National School Lunch Week and highlighted the research-based connection between proper nutrition and student achievement. The Duncans visited classrooms, observed a PE class at the elementary school led by soccer stars Jozy Altidore and Oguchi Onyewu, and, over a delicious lunch of pasta with marinara sauce, caesar salad and fresh fruit, talked with 8th graders about their future plans and most immediately their aspirations for high school. Mrs. Duncan delighted a pre-K class with a read-aloud of Up, Down and All Around while the Secretary enthusiastically chatted up the youngest DC Preppies. 

"I could tell right away that both Secretary and Mrs. Duncan know a lot about kids," siad Katherine Fabian, a pre-k teacher. "They were so comfortable in the classroom — even in those tiny chairs! It was a thrill to have them."
