Reginald Carthen – 5th Grader, Edgewood Middle Campus
"The difference between my old school and DC Prep – it's like two different worlds."
Reginald Carthen has been at DC Prep since its founding three years ago, when he was a bright-eyed 5th grader in the Junior Academy. In the intervening years, Reginald has played on the basketball team, seen his mother join the Board of Directors, and joined the Link Crew, a club through which he mentors a Junior Academy student. He says of his Junior Academy friend, proudly: "It's really nice to see him mature. At first, he was getting in trouble all of the time. Now, he raises his hand in community meeting."
As a member of DC Prep's first graduating class, the 8th grade Reginald has become reflective. When asked about DC Prep, he responds, "I like the sense of community at here – everybody is a friend. In the future, people will ask me about what it was like when I was a kid, and I'll tell them that I had all these friends at DC Prep who helped me."
