Celebrating a new home at 1409 V Street, SE

DC Prep officials and supporters – joined by Preppies, families, alumni, Board Members, and community/business leaders – officially broke ground on a permanent new home for the Anacostia Elementary Campus (AEC) in Ward 8 at a fun-filled neighborhood block party.

Through the generosity of The RFI Family Foundation, DC Prep’s Anacostia Elementary – The Ruth & Norman Rales Campus will open in time for the upcoming 2017-18 school year in a newly-renovated building at 1409 V Street, SE – formerly Our Lady of Perpetual Help, a 100-year-old historic landmark in the community.

In the $24M purchase and extensive renovation project, DC Prep is teaming up with long-time partners in MCN Build, Shinberg Levinas Architects, and Building Hope, among others, to ensure that the facility is a safe, inspiring, and beautiful long-term campus for the over 400 Preppies who will attend preschool-3rd grade, once at scale.

Since its opening in the 2015-16 school year with PK3 and PK4, AEC has been housed in a temporary modular facility in the neighborhood at 1102 W Street, SE. However, as the campus “grows up” a grade annually, the permanent V Street facility will provide students with over 50,000 square feet of learning space suitable for our educational model – including ample classroom space, a gym, and a library.
