Rachel McClam joined DC Prep in 2010 after completing two years as a Metro DC Teach For America corps member, and currently serves as the Edgewood Middle Campus (EMC) Resident Principal. Prior to that role, she served as an Assistant Principal of Academics as well as a 5th grade Math teacher. Rachel’s previous experience includes teaching 3rd grade at a DC charter school and student teaching experience in Durham, NC. Rachel holds a BA from Duke University and an MAT from American University.
Tara Iqbal joined DC Prep in fall 2008. In 2013, she transitioned to a leadership role as the Assistant Principal of Culture at the Edgewood Middle Campus and in 2015, served as the Resident Principal. In 2016, she will return to her role as Assistant Principal of Culture, working to strengthen school-wide culture for Preppies and team members. Tara also has experience as the campus' Dean of Academic Support and science department chair, where she supported academic intervention initiatives. Tara taught for six years at The SEED School in Washington, DC, where she also served as a department chair. Tara received a BS from the University of Michigan.
Heidi Reed joined DC Prep in fall 2009 and prior to her role as the Edgewood Middle Campus Assistant Principal of Academics, she served as a Curriculum Writer based out of the Home Office Academic Team, where she managed DC Prep’s transition to Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) for Grades K-8. Before that, she was a teacher at the Edgewood Middle Campus and a Department Chair. Before joining the DC Prep team, she worked in community and education initiatives in both Chicago and Washington, DC. Heidi started her teaching career with Teach For America (TFA) as a 4th grade teacher at a charter school in Washington, DC. Prior to joining TFA, she did recruitment for The Council for Adult and Experiential Learning and was a research assistant at Chaplin Hall Center for Children, both in Chicago. She has also served as a tutor and afterschool teacher. Heidi holds a BA from the University of Chicago and an MA from American University.
Matthew Carothers joined DC Prep in 2015 and currently serves as the Edgewood Middle Campus Student Support Coordinator, where he provides a comprehensive, developmentally appropriate program of counseling and guidance for students. Prior to that, Mathew was a Talent Recruiter in the Home Office and a previous Assistant Principal of Culture at the Edgewood Middle Campus. Before joining the DC Prep team, Matthew served as the Middle School Director at the SEED School of Washington, DC. Matthew has extensive school leadership experience and has held leadership roles at KIPP: Houston, DC Public Schools, and Friendship Public Charter Schools. Matthew holds a BA from Prairie View A&M University, an MSW from Howard University, and an MA from The George Washington University.
Fabeanne Collins | Math Department Chair; Junior Academy Special Education Math Teacher
Fabeanne Collins joined DC Prep in 2014. Before joining DC Prep, she worked as a special education teacher at KIPP DC through the Capital Teaching Residency program. Fabeanne holds a BS and MS from Florida State University.
Monique Leopold, Psychologist, joined the DC Prep team in 2011. Previously, she worked as a School Psychologist in Montgomery County Public Schools and Norfolk Public Schools. As the School Psychologist, Monique collaborates with parents and teachers of students with disabilities to find effective solutions to learning and behavior problems. Additionally, she performs psycho-educational and social-emotional testing and provides individual and group counseling and social skills training. Monique holds a BA from the University of Virginia as well as an MEd and EdS from The College of William and Mary.
Bill McDermott | Social Studies Department Chair; 8th Grade Social Studies Teacher
Bill McDermott joined DC Prep in 2009. In his role as Social Studies Department Chair, Bill works with teams at both the Edgewood and Benning Middle Campuses. Before joining DC Prep, he had experience working in general and special education in middle and high schools in DC, NY, and VA. Bill holds a BA from Western Connecticut State University and an MEd from The George Washington University.
Julie O'Malley Moeller joined DC Prep in 2005 and works to ensure that all DC Prep graduates secure placement in a competitive high school. Prior to directing the High School Placement Program, Julie taught math in the upper grades at DC Prep. Julie entered teaching at Mother Caroline Academy in Boston, following years of a business consulting career with Oliver Wyman in New York. Julie received a BA from Northwestern University and an MEd from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
Jonathan Petty | Science Department Chair; Senior Academy Science Teacher
Dyami Pipkin joined DC Prep in 2014. Prior to joining DC Prep, he worked with Baltimore County Public Schools. Dyami received a BA from Thomas Edison State College.
Anna Salzberg | English Department Chair; Senior Academy Special Education Teacher
Anna Salzberg joined DC Prep in 2014. She previously taught 8th grade literature at E.L. Haynes Public Charter School. Anna was also a Fulbright Fellow where she developed and taught ESL curriculum to students in Thailand. She earned her BA from Kenyon College.
Adriana Antunez de Mayolo joined DC Prep in 2012. She began her career in education through Teach For America and taught in DC charter schools for five years before coming to DC Prep. Adriana received a BA from the University of Miami and an MEd from American University.
John Becker, who first joined DC Prep in 2005, has enjoyed careers in engineering and teaching. He was a Teach For America corps member in Washington, DC, where he taught 4th grade. He has since taught math, science, guitar, and debate to 4th-8th grade students in both DC and St. Louis, MO. John received a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and an MAT from American University.
Dafna Feith joined DC Prep in 2015. Previously, she taught 5th grade at Democracy Prep PCS. Dafna started her career in education through the Match Teacher Residency Program in Boston, MA. She holds a BA from Columbia University.
Cristina Grover joined DC Prep in 2013. At a New Orleans charter school, she was a reading teacher as well as a middle school interventionist and ELA data leader. She received a BA from Tulane University.
Hollis Hyland joined DC Prep in 2011 with over seven years of teaching experience. She began her career as a Teach For America corps member in Atlanta and Boston and has taught English at the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade levels. Hollis received a BA from Hamilton College and an MEd from Harvard University.
Samuel Kim joined DC Prep in 2015. Previously, he taught 3rd grade Special Education at Democracy Prep. Samuel started his career in education as a 2010 Teach For America corps member in New Orleans. He earned a BA from the University of California, Merced.
Dan Kipperman | Physical Education and Health Teacher, 6th Grade Level Lead
Dan Kipperman joined DC Prep in fall 2007. Prior to that, he wrote about health and the environment for the Daily News-Record in Harrisonburg, VA, and was a writer and copy editor at a newspaper in Latrobe, PA. Dan has a BA from Duquesne University.
Laura Kravis joined the DC Prep team in 2013 as a 5th grade Reading and Writing Teacher, and began serving as the library liaison in 2015. Prior to joining DC Prep, she worked at Cesar Chavez PCS as a founding teacher, literacy coach, curriculum developer, and teacher mentor. She got her BA at Williams College and MS at Bank Street College of Education.
Allison Lashley joined DC Prep in 2010. Her previous experience includes teaching middle and high school math and 3rd grade. She has committed extensive time to tutoring and mentoring youth. Allison holds a BS from Union University.
Richard Myers joined DC Prep in 2015. Previously, he worked as a Special Education teacher at KIPP: DC. He began his career in education through the Capital Teaching Residency Program. Richard earned a BA from James Madison University and an MEd from American University.
Gary Nelson joined DC Prep in 2014 as an 8th grade Science Teacher before transitioning to his current role. Prior to joining DC Prep, he was a Teach For America Corps Member and taught 6th and 7th grade math in Maryland. Gary earned a BA from Howard University.
Lauren Orzechowski joined DC Prep in 2010. Her previous experience as an educator includes five years as a Reading and English teacher at the Columbia Heights Educational Campus. In addition, she worked as a soccer/writing coach with DC SCORES, a program that combines creative writing, soccer, and service learning in public schools. Lauren has a BA from Saint Mary’s College of Maryland and an MAT from American University.
Ciara Ray joined DC Prep in 2015. She began her career in education at Albany Community Charter School in Albany, NY. There she taught 4th grade general education for four years and 6th grade writing for two years. Ciara holds a BA in English from the University at Albany and a dual MS degree in Childhood Education and Special Education from Sage Graduate School.
Matthew Stuart joined DC Prep in 2015. Previously, he taught high school English at DCPS. Matthew started his career in education as a 2009 Teach For America corps member in Washington, DC. He earned a BA from Michigan State University and an MAT from American University.
Kelly Ugwu-Oju (Schrepfer) joined DC Prep in 2012 with extensive teaching experience and served as a 6th grade Math teacher at Edgewood Middle Campus before transitioning to her current role in 7th grade. She began her teaching career as a member of the 1999 Teach For America cohort in Baltimore. Just prior to joining DC Prep, Kelly taught Math at North Star Academy Public Charter School in New Jersey. She has a BA from the University of Illinois and an MAT from Johns Hopkins University.
Calvet Liburd joined DC Prep in 2015. Calvet has over 7 years of leadership and team-building experience in the non-profit sector. He previously served as the Director of Operations at Sela PCS in Washington, DC for SY14-15, and as the Interim Executive Director/Program Director for Playworks for the New York/New Jersey Region from 2010-2014. Calvet holds a BA from Morgan State University.
Michael Brooks joined DC Prep in 2009. He provides building and grounds security at both Edgewood Campuses. Prior to that, Michael worked for Construction Labors Contractor, where he participated in the total renovation of the Pentagon.
Dawn Stephens joined DC Prep in 2014. Dawn previously worked with several nonprofit organizations around Washington, DC. She has been an office administrator for Casey Family Programs and the catering sales coordinator for DC Central Kitchen, among other positions. Dawn brings over 20 years of senior administrative and procurement experience to the DC Prep organization.
