Shaunte Edmonds is the Senior Principal of the Edgewood Elementary Campus, working closely with Resident Principal Avise Hayes. She joined DC Prep in 2012 and served as the campus’ Assistant Principal – supporting school culture and instructional initiatives. Previously, she served as Principal at a DC charter school and Assistant Principal at Bronx Prep in NY. At Bronx Prep she also served as a middle school teacher, grade level lead, and history coach. Shaunte’s career in education started in DC as a 5th grade teacher at C.W. Harris Elementary School through the TNTP DC Teaching Fellows program. Shaunte received a BA from Columbia University, an MA from American University, and an EdM from Teachers College at Columbia University.
Avise Hayes, is Resident Principal of the Edgewood Elementary Campus (EEC), and joined DC Prep in 2013. Prior to this role, she served as the Assistant Principal of Culture leading student and team culture efforts throughout EEC. After completing her time as a Teach For America (TFA) corps member in Philadelphia, she stayed in the city to teach in a public middle school. She then became a Reading Curriculum Coordinator and TFA’s Professional Learning Community Coordinator. At KIPP Philadelphia Charter School she was also a 7th grade teacher and Chair, as well as the Assistant Principal. Avise’s BA is from Spelman College, and she holds two MS degrees from Chestnut Hill College and National Louis University.
Sheneil Christian joined DC Prep in 2013 and is currently the Founding Resident Principal for DC Prep's newest elementary campus, leading planning and preparation efforts for its launch in Fall 2017 or Fall 2018. Prior to this role, Sheneil served as the Early Childhood Support Coordinator at the Edgewood Elementary Campus and a preschool teacher. Before joining the DC Prep team, she was a lead teacher for two years at AppleTree Early Learning. Sheneil holds a BA from Fayetteville State University.
Amy Helms joined DC Prep in 2015 and serves as the Edgewood Elementary Campus Assistant Principal of Academics, where she supports teachers and leaders across the school. Prior to coming to DC Prep, Amy completed a Principal Fellowship at Boston Public Schools as part of her School Leadership Program at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Amy started her career in education in 2007 as a Teach For America (TFA) Corps Member in Washington, DC, and has since taught elementary and middle school grades, as well as coached teachers through both the Learn Zillion program and TFA. Amy holds a BA from Tufts University, an MA from American University, and an MEd from Harvard University.
Angel-Dama Hendricks joined DC Prep in fall 2007 as a founding faculty member and Resident Teacher at the Edgewood Elementary Campus, where she also served as a 1st grade literacy teacher and grade level lead. In her current role as Assistant Principal of Culture, she oversees campus-wide efforts to ensure that the school culture is strong for Preppies and team members. Prior to this role, from 2013-2016, she was the campus Dean of Student Support, where she led school culture and character education efforts. She came to DC Prep with experience as a social work intern and Boys & Girls Club counselor, and is a member of the National Urban League's Greater Washington Chapter. Angel-Dama received a BA from Xavier University of Louisiana, an MAT from American University, and an Ed.S in Educational Leadership from National Louis University.
Elizabeth Pillion joined DC Prep in 2010 through the Princeton AlumniCorps (formerly known as Princeton Project 55) that engages Princeton University alumni in public service initiatives. Prior to her current role as Assistant Principal of Early Childhood at the Edgewood Elementary Campus, she served as Benning Elementary’s Operations Manager before moving to an Early Childhood teaching role at the Benning Elementary Campus. She has been a college lacrosse coach and worked as a Field Organizer in Michigan for the Obama campaign. Elizabeth received a BA from Princeton University.
LaKisha Gantt came to DC Prep in 2010 as a Prep EX! instructor and Early Childhood teacher. Before coming to DC Prep, she was a police officer in Durham, NC. She has a BS from North Carolina Central University.
Katie Kuzma | Elementary Science Department Chair (EEC and BEC)
Katie Kuzma joined DC Prep in 2013 as a 3rd Grade Social Studies/Science Teacher. Currently, she serves as the Elementary Science Department Chair supporting teams at both Edgewood Elementary Campus and Benning Elementary Campus. She was a Teach For America corps member in Atlanta, where she taught 4th grade English, social studies, and science. She earned her BA at Harvard College.
Monique Leopold, Psychologist, joined the DC Prep team in 2011. Previously, she worked as a School Psychologist in Montgomery County Public Schools and Norfolk Public Schools. As the School Psychologist, Monique collaborates with parents and teachers of students with disabilities to find effective solutions to learning and behavior problems. Additionally, she performs psycho-educational and social-emotional testing and provides individual and group counseling and social skills training. Monique holds a BA from the University of Virginia as well as an MEd and EdS from The College of William and Mary.
Emma LePore joined DC Prep in 2013 as a 2nd grade Literacy Teacher before moving into her current role as Literacy Department Chair. Prior to DC Prep, Emma was a Teach For America 4th grade bilingual teacher in the Rio Grande Valley region for three years, where she was a Sue Lehmann Teaching Award nominee. She received a BA from American University and is currently pursuing a MA from Michigan State University.
Sarah McGrew joined DC Prep in 2013 as Edgewood Elementary Campus' Student Support Coordinator. Prior to DC Prep, Sarah taught special education in Baltimore. She earned a bachelor's degree from Towson University, and received a master's degree in school counseling from Loyola University.
Laura Ressler joined DC Prep in 2012, and as the Special Education Coordinator, she ensures that DC Prep’s Edgewood Elementary Campus provides appropriate programs in the least restrictive environment for all students with special needs. In 2013, she took on a leadership role as Assistant Principal of Academics. Prior to DC Prep, Laura taught Special Education in Washington, DC and Philadelphia, PA. She has also been involved with TNTP since 2007. Laura received a BA from the University of Buffalo, State University of New York and a master's degree from Eastern University.
Melissa Rich | Kindergarten and 1st Grade Math Department Chair (EEC and BEC)
Melissa Rich joined DC Prep in 2012 and originally served as a prekindergarten teacher and Grade Level Lead before transitioning into her current role as Math Department Chair, supporting both Kindergarten and 1st grade teachers at the Edgewood Elementary Campus and Benning Elementary Campus. Prior to DC Prep, Melissa taught 3rd and 5th grades as a member of Teach For America’s 2010 Miami Corps. Melissa also coached a girls’ high school basketball team. She has both a BA and an MEd from Lehigh University.
Sandy Alvarez joined DC Prep in 2014. Prior to joining DC Prep, Sandy was a kindergarten teacher at a Mastery Charter School in Philadelphia and was a New York City Teaching Fellow. Sandy holds a BA from Amherst College and an MEd from City College of New York.
Andrea Conway joined DC Prep in 2013. Recently, she taught at Meridian Public Charter School, and she was also a teacher, Student and Family Services Coordinator, and Technology Administrator at Potomac Lighthouse. Andrea holds a BA from Virginia Union University.
Emily Davol joined DC Prep in 2014 through the DC Teaching Fellows Program. She previously interned at DC Prep’s Home Office while an undergraduate at The George Washington University, where she earned a BA.
Lital Ehrlich joined DC Prep in 2014. Prior to DC Prep, Lital was a second grade teacher at Potomac Lighthouse Public Charter School. She was previously a lead prekindergarten teacher at Bright Beginnings. Lital holds a BA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Erin Flynn joined DC Prep in 2012. In her previous years at DC Prep, she taught 1st grade Special Education as well as 2nd and 3rd grade Math Special Education. Prior to DC Prep, Erin student-taught in a 4th grade classroom in Connecticut. She received a BS in elementary education from Central Connecticut State University.
Marie Hinds joined DC Prep in 2008 where she came from Jamaica through Teachers Council. While in Jamaica, she taught music education and Math to students in preschool through 4th grade and provided private tutoring to students in 5th and 6th grade. Marie received a BS from Western Carolina University and an MEd from the University of Maryland.
Christopher Hoover joined DC Prep in 2015. Prior to DC Prep, Christopher taught Kindergarten and 1st grade at DC Scholars PCS. He was previously a 1st grade teacher at Empower Public Charter School in Brooklyn, NY. He earned his BA from Clemson University.
Jordan Kerstetter joined DC Prep in 2012 after five years of teaching at an early childhood charter school in DC, where she started there as a Teaching Fellow and after several years became a Master Teacher. Jordan has a BA from the University of Northern Iowa and an MEd in Special Education from George Mason University. Jordan is also a 2015 DC Teacher of the Year Finalist.
Matthew Krummert joined DC Prep in 2012 with six years of elementary teaching experience. He previously taught 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades in Fairfax County Schools where he also served as a mentor to novice teachers. Matthew received a BS from the University of Pittsburgh and an MEd from George Mason University.
Kayla Locklin joined DC Prep in fall 2008. She has experience with youth at the National Head Start Association, with Southeast DC Partners, as a daycare teacher and as a camp counselor. Kayla received a BA from the College of William and Mary.
Kanita Mason joined DC Prep in 2013. Prior to that, she was a 2nd grade lead teacher at William E. Doar, Jr. Public Charter School for the Performing Arts and Capital Teaching Resident at E.L. Haynes. She earned her BA at Howard University and an MEd at Trinity University.
Paige McDermott joined DC Prep in 2014. Prior to joining DC Prep, Paige was a 2011 Teach For America DC Metro Cohort Member. Paige earned a BA from the University of Michigan and an MEd from George Mason.
Heather Murphy came to DC Prep in 2013. She spent three years as a 3rd grade teacher in Connecticut and also taught 2nd and 3rd graders in Hawaii during the summer. Her BS and MA are both from the University of Connecticut.
Erin Rainey | Early Childhood Special Education Teacher
Erin Rainey joined DC Prep in 2014 after serving as a 2012 Teach For America (TFA) Corps Member where she taught kindergarten in Detroit. Prior to joining TFA, she was a 4th grade teacher in Virginia Beach. Erin holds a BA from the College of William and Mary.
Camilla Schaeffer came to DC Prep in 2011. Prior to joining DC Prep, she completed a year of volunteering at Mastery Charter School in Philadelphia through AmeriCorps’ City Year program. Camilla has a BA from Albright College and an MA from Boston University. She is also a working artist with a studio in the Gateway Arts District, Mt. Rainier.
Shay Schoppert joined DC Prep in 2010 as a Center For Inspired Teaching Fellow. She completed her student teaching at Capital City Public Charter School. Prior to teaching, Shay worked as a senior case manager at a foster care organization. She has a BA from Seton Hill University.
Emily Silber joined DC Prep in 2015. She previously worked as an assistant preschool teacher at the University of Wisconsin Preschool Lab School. Emily earned a BS from University of Wisconsin – Madison.
Nicole Small joined DC Prep in 2009 as a Resident Teacher. She first came to DC Prep as an intern at the Edgewood Middle Campus and a Prep EX! teacher at the Edgewood Elementary Campus as well. Nicole has a BS from the University of Maryland, College Park.
Kelley Suber joined DC Prep in 2012. Prior to joining DC Prep, she worked as a teacher assistant in Washington, DC. Kelley holds her AA from Montgomery College and is currently attending Trinity University-Washington in pursuit of her BA.
AnnMarie Thomas joined DC Prep in 2007 as a founding faculty member at the Edgewood Elementary Campus. She came to DC Prep from Jamaica through Teachers Council. She taught for several years in Jamaica and has served as an early childhood teacher and a child development tutor. AnnMarie has both a BA and an MA from the University of the West Indies.
Marjorie Walker joined the 1st grade team in 2014. She initially came to DC Prep as a Prep EX! instructor and school support specialist at EEC. Marjorie received a BA from the University of Maryland, College Park
Brandon Ward joined DC Prep in 2015. Prior to DC Prep, he taught 5th grade Math and ELA at Democracy Prep PCS. He was previously a middle school teacher in Tampa, FL. He earned a BS from Florida College.
Mare Zogby joined DC Prep in 2015. Prior to DC Prep, she taught 2nd-5th grade at Septima Clark PCS, and worked as an Instructional Coach. She was previously an elementary teacher in Baltimore County, and received a BA from Loyola College of Maryland.
Edisha Brandy, Operations Manager, joined DC Prep in 2015. Prior to DC Prep, she worked in New Haven, CT as an Operations Manager/Human Resource & Benefits Specialist for Booker T. Washington Academy, a public charter school serving grades K-2. She was also a former Office Administrator Bookkeeper/Consultant for the Public Square Partnership and a Finance & HR Operations Associate at the Connecticut Coalition for Achievement Now. Edisha holds a BS in Business Administration from Southern Connecticut State University.
Michael Brooks joined DC Prep in 2009. He provides building and grounds security at both Edgewood Campuses. Prior to that, Michael worked for Construction Labors Contractor, where he participated in the total renovation of the Pentagon.
Winter Morant joined DC Prep in 2014. Previously, she served as a Prep EX! preschool teacher. Prior to joining DC Prep, Winter worked at a day care facility for nearly a decade. She is pursuing an AA in early childhood education at UDC.
